How to Meditate

How to Meditate, Energy Healing of Atlanta

Meditation. This is a tough word for a lot of us.

It's tough because it sounds hard.

It's tough because it seems weird.

It's tough because we've been taught to fear it.

It's tough because ain't nobody got time to sit still.

But how will we access what's really going on in our hearts—grief, pain, anger, self-sabotage and limiting beliefs—if we don't slow down and do the inner work necessary to find out? Meditation is an effective tool for accessing the truth about what we feel, what we fear, and what we believe. Once we become aware of what needs healing, it's much easier to heal.

Also, here's the REAL reason why we resist the idea of meditation: our subconscious mind likes things Just. As. They. Are. The constructs, the beliefs, and the habits stored in our subconscious make us feel safe. Thus, the perception that if any of these change, we are no longer safe. Meditation brings down the walls of our subconscious programming.

If we want to promote a healthy flow of heart energy, we need to heal our programming.

Benefits of Meditation include ...

  • Moves us out of the "fight or flight" stress response

  • Lowers cortisol

  • Lengthens telomeres (predictive of lifespan)

  • Boosts immunity

  • Promotes theta brainwaves (deep relaxation)

  • Moves the body into a state of healing

  • Increases focus and productivity

Ready to try Meditation? Here are some options.

  1. If you're really new to Meditation, start by sitting still without interruption for at least 5 minutes (set a timer). Close your eyes and practice five rounds of this breathing pattern: in for 4 counts, hold for 7 counts, and exhale for 8 counts. Resume normal breathing and finish out the rest of your time in stillness.

  2. If you're ready to try a regular practice (weekly/daily), there are several apps you might enjoy that contain categories of guided meditations. Suggestions include Calm, Headspace, Meditation Oasis, or Abide.

  3. Explore Transcendental Meditation, which is the most research-backed form.

  4. Search YouTube for meditations, guided or otherwise.

  5. Register for an upcoming virtual or in-person meditation with Energy Healing of Atlanta! You'll feel amazing afterwards.
